01:51 pm - Next Year's Corflu & FAAn Awards
Pat Virzi has ever-so-graciously agreed to host next year's Corflu. She announced that it will be held in Austin, Texas, and before Easter. She'll announce more details in about a month. Yay, Pat! Thank you!

FAAn Award Winners:

(Note: Murray Moore channeled Andy Hooper and announced the second runners-up, first runners-up, and award winners in each category. Sorry I'm a slow typist; I'm sure all of the runners-up will be posted to the fannish lists soon.)

Best New Fan: Chris Garcia
Harry Warner, Jr Memorial....(Best Letterhack): Robert Lichtman

Best Fan Artist: Steve Stiles

(second runner up: Frank Wu
first runner up: Dan Steffan)

Best Fan Writer: Claire Brialey

Best Fanzine: Banana Wings
(first runner up: Chunga)

Austin Sounds Great

When can I sign up for Austin?

Congratulations to Chris, Robert, Steve, Claire, and Mark. The FAAN Awards always seem so much more on the mark than the Fan Hugos. And sympathies to Chris who, I take it, couldn't be at the con due to a family emergency. If it's any consolation, it's hard to think of anytime when it has been so obvious who deserved the Best New fan award.

Finally, congratulations to Mike Glicksohn on being elected past president of FWA. With that honor, and his recent letter to Chunga, can it be too much longer before we see much more Glicksohnian fan writing again?

Re: Austin Sounds Great

If you'd like me to front you the $50 for a membership, I'll be glad to hand Pat a check and sign you up now and you can send the $$$ my way.

Alternately, I'll check with Pat, send you her address if you need it, and you can buy your membership directly whenever you like (or whenever she says).

Re: Austin Sounds Great

If there's a supporting membership price set, please put me down for one. Barring that, I hope Pat will be quick to put up a page for Austin on corflu.org *and* (I hope) have a Paypal option. Otherwise, check in the mail (to you, Geri, if you can cover it now, or to Pat if not -- will need her address).

Congratulations to all my fellow FAAn award winners -- they totally match my own first choices.

Re: Austin Sounds Great

I can cover a $20 supporting membership for you, Robert. I'll confirm when I've actually done so, and you can send the check to me. And I'll send you Pat's address, too, so you'll have it.

Next Year's Corflu & FAAn Awards

Elaine and I thoroughly enjoyed Austin the last time we were there (LoneStarCon, 1997) --great food, their art museum's first class, there's a fantastic warehouse-sized used bookstore, et cetera. So we fervently hope to be able to make it, although our track record, despite our wishes, for Corflu isn't so great --about one in four, I'd guess. Money has usually been the root of this particular evil.

As for the FAAn Awards, thanks for those who voted for me; I appreciate it, but I think I ought to withdraw (no pun)from next year's voting.

Austin? FAAAAANBulous!

With the con moving back to Feb/Marchish, I think billzilla and I will definitely want to go. I'll email Pat soon about the corflu.org pages to see what she'd like to do there...

I'm a Winner!
As always, good and bad come about the same time (see that time I won a Local Emmy)
I'm totally in on Austin because I've got family there and I'm always up for a CorFlu

I just told Suzle, and she said, "Austin? That's the only Texas city I've ever wanted to visit!"

Hasn't happened yet, and Trufen.net seems to be totally neglected.
